John Driskell Hopkins of The Zac Brown Band at Venkman’s

John Driskell Hopkins has played a lot of shows.
His original band, Brighter Shade, hit Atlanta in the late nineties and enjoyed recording multiple records and touring for many years.
John and Zac Brown began writing and performing together in 2003.
Now John spends most of his time touring with the Zac Brown Band, first as the bass player and currently as guitar/banjo player and contributing songwriter (“Toes,” “It’s Not OK,” “I Play The Road,” “Nothing,” and many others). They win a lot of awards including Grammys and Academy of Country Music Awards.
He’s released his first holiday album in 2015, “In The Spirit – A Celebration of the Holidays,” collaborating with the legendary Atlanta Pops Orchestra, and featuring guests such as Indigo Girls, Balsam Range, and Laura Bell Bundy.
His second album was just released in November 2017, “You Better Watch Out!” which features the incredible Joe Gransden Big Band, and special guests, Aoife O’Donovan, Bela Fleck, and Clay Cook and Daniel de los Reyes from the Zac Brown Band.
John loves playing his originals with his 6-piece band, featuring Leah Calvert on fiddle and Greg Earnest on bass, the unstoppable Mike Rizzi on drums, Sean McIntyre on bass and Brian Bisky on keys and second guitar.
He does a bit of acting – look for him in the feature films “Careful What You Wish For” and “Adolescence,” – a lot of Harley riding, songwriting and producing in his home studio, called Brighter Shade Studio, where he’s currently working on a new solo album, and more touring.
He’s really happy to play shows with his friends as often as possible.
